Corki Weeks Brass Kaleidoscope on Marble Base w/ Cozy Baker Book
A fine large brass kaleidoscope by noted American artist Corki Weeks of Pine, Colorado, mounted on a polished marble (or onyx) base with original maker’s label. The piece features a rotating three-segment object wheel filled with colorful glass shards, metal accents, and sculptural inclusions including a dragonfly and swan, producing vivid, multi-layered optical images. Weeks, active during the 1980s–1990s, was celebrated for inventive dual-mirror systems and elegant craftsmanship, as documented in Cozy Baker’s definitive 1987 reference Through the Kaleidoscope …And Beyond (included).
This example’s substantial brass construction and stone base reflect the high quality of Weeks’ collectible works, many of which are now discontinued and sought after by collectors of optical art and American studio craft. A distinctive, display-worthy piece of functional artistry.
Condition
Good overall. Optics are clear with no remarkable damage. Smooth wheel action and only minor surface wear and patina consistent with age.
