Description

Massive Petrified Wood Trunk Section – ~250 lbs, 21" x 21" x 15"

A truly impressive specimen of petrified wood, weighing approximately 250 lbs and measuring 21" x 21" x 15". This substantial trunk section displays outstanding preservation of the original tree’s grain and bark structure, with striking vertical striations and natural mineral veining throughout. The coloration ranges from warm tan and russet to soft gray and slate-blue hues, formed through ancient silica mineralization that gradually replaced the organic material over millions of years.

From one of the classic petrified wood deposits of the American Southwest—the Triassic Chinle Formation of Arizona—this specimen embodies both geological wonder and sculptural beauty. A natural cavity on one face adds further interest, revealing internal depth and texture. Its raw, natural surface highlights the texture and form of the original trunk, while the flat top makes it an ideal candidate for professional polishing. When polished, such specimens reveal extraordinary depth of color and quartz-like luster, transforming them into museum-grade or designer display pieces.

Condition:

Very good natural condition overall, with expected surface fissures and weathering typical of large fossilized wood specimens. The mineral colors and structural details remain distinct and stable. No visible repairs or artificial polishing beyond minor natural wear.

Dimensions:

Approx. 21 x 21 x 15 inches (height x width x depth)
Weight: ~250 lbs
