Hand-Carved Folk Eastlake/Colonial Revival 3/4 Bed, Brass Accents, c.1900
This hand-carved wooden bed frame is a striking example of American folk craftsmanship influenced by the Eastlake and Colonial Revival styles, produced in a Southern Appalachian or Mid-Atlantic regional workshop around 1895–1925. The headboard and footboard feature deeply carved geometric basket panels reminiscent of Eastlake design, while the flame-carved crest rail, interlaced guilloche band with brass studs, and botanical leaf-and-dot corner motifs reveal true hand tooling. Subtle irregularities in the carving and joinery confirm small-shop craftsmanship, with warm maple and mixed hardwoods finished in a rich reddish-brown tone typical of early 20th-century regional work.
Blending Eastlake geometry with folk-carved ornament and Colonial Revival decorative vocabulary, this 3/4-size bed has strong visual presence and historical appeal. Its handmade character and sculptural detailing make it well suited for collectors of Americana, rustic revival furnishings, or period-inspired interiors. Mattress and bedding not included.
Condition
In good structural condition with finish wear consistent with age. The headboard shows the most noticeable wear, including a slight separation at one joint. Evidence of past restorations is visible. Stable overall and suitable for decorative or functional use.
