Louie Ewing “Atalaya Hill” Serigraph, Signed, 97/122
Atalaya Hill is a limited-edition serigraph by Louie Ewing (1908–1983), pencil-signed at lower right and numbered 97/122. The work captures a classic New Mexico hillside scene rendered in Ewing’s hallmark layered color fields and warm adobe tones, reflecting his deep connection to the Santa Fe region. The print is framed under glass and offers a fine example of mid-century Southwestern serigraphy.
Artist Biography:
Louie Ewing was a pioneering American printmaker who helped introduce serigraphy (silkscreen) as a fine-art medium in the Southwest. After moving to Santa Fe in 1935, he worked under the WPA Federal Art Project, where he headed the local silk-screen workshop and influenced generations of regional artists. His career ranged across watercolor, gouache, illustration, and stained glass, though his serigraphs—especially Southwestern landscapes—remain his most collected works. Ewing’s art is held in major institutions, including the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art.
