Description

Bonnie Mandoe Oil Landscape, New Mexico Desert Scene

This expressive oil-on-canvas landscape by Bonnie Mandoe captures the character of a New Mexico desert scene through bold impasto and vibrant color. Signed at the lower right, the composition unfolds in layered bands of textured brushwork—warm ochres and violets in the foreground, transitioning into cooler turquoise and green foliage, and culminating in soft lavender mountain forms beneath a luminous sky. Mandoe’s distinctive color contrasts and sculptural paint application create a rhythmic sense of movement and depth, drawing the viewer through the landscape.

Housed in a shadowbox-style frame that allows the raised paint and extending canvas edges to be appreciated, this work offers strong visual impact in a versatile size. An appealing choice for collectors of contemporary Southwestern art and modern impressionist landscapes.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Bonnie Mandoe is an American painter recognized for her vibrant, impasto-driven interpretations of Southwestern and Hawaiian landscapes. After raising her family on Maui, she spent more than twenty years living in New Mexico, where the desert environment and shifting light profoundly influenced her artistic style. Her paintings are characterized by expressive brushwork, saturated color, and atmospheric depth, often created using oils or water-mixable oils in plein-air or studio settings. Mandoe later returned to Hawai‘i, where she continues to paint and teach. Her works are held in private collections throughout the Southwest and across the islands.

CONDITION

In good overall condition with no damage noted. The textured paint surface is intact, colors remain strong, and the shadowbox frame shows only minimal handling wear.
