Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver Ring with Ithaca Peak Turquoise
This Navajo ring is crafted in sterling silver and set with two natural Ithaca Peak turquoise cabochons. The stones display vivid blue coloration with dark matrix, characteristic of Ithaca Peak material, and are mounted in hand-cut serrated bezels. The larger stone measures approximately 15 x 8.5 mm, while the smaller accent stone measures 7.5 mm in diameter.
The silverwork is bold and sculptural, formed as a shield-shaped composition embellished with traditional Navajo design elements. These include a stamped leaf motif, twisted wire accents, and a fan-shaped floral element, all applied to a darkened, oxidized ground that enhances depth and contrast. The ring is substantial in form and weight, exhibiting strong presence and confident workmanship.
The reverse is engraved with an arched “HU” hallmark. The hand-engraved nature of the signature, combined with the construction techniques and design vocabulary, is consistent with mid-20th-century Navajo silversmithing. While the individual maker remains unidentified in published references, the hallmark and craftsmanship support attribution to a Navajo artisan working independently or through a regional trading post.
