1996 Stratosphere Casino $10 Silver Strike – .999 Silver, Encapsulated
This listing features a 1996 Stratosphere $10 gaming token, issued in Las Vegas, Nevada in conjunction with the opening of the Stratosphere Tower. The token is a bimetallic Silver Strike issue consisting of a .999 fine silver center encased within a gold-toned brass outer ring. No sovereign issuing authority is present, consistent with privately issued casino gaming tokens used on the casino floor.
The obverse displays a stylized depiction of the Stratosphere Tower at center, accompanied by the inscriptions “TOWERS OF THE UNITED STATES,” “HEIGHT 1149 FEET,” and “INAUGURATION DATE 1996.” “LAS VEGAS, NEVADA” appears along the lower portion of the inner field. The surrounding ring is inscribed “LIMITED EDITION TEN DOLLAR GAMING TOKEN” and “STRATOSPHERE.”
The reverse again features the Stratosphere Tower within the silver center, with the date “1996” at left and the script “Stratosphere” below the tower, above “LAS VEGAS, NEVADA.” A small “G” mint mark is visible beneath the location inscription in the inner field. The outer ring repeats “LIMITED EDITION TEN DOLLAR GAMING TOKEN” and includes the inscription “.999 FINE SILVER.” The token is housed in a protective capsule.
