1936 Estados Unidos de Venezuela Five Bolívares – Silver
This is a 1936 issue of the Estados Unidos de Venezuela, Five Bolívares denomination, struck in silver for circulation, with no mint mark visible on the obverse or reverse. The denomination is expressed by weight and fineness rather than by face value in the legends.
The obverse features a left-facing bust of Simón Bolívar. The legend BOLIVAR appears to the left of the portrait, with LIBERTADOR to the right. Below the truncation of the bust is the engraver’s signature BARRE.
The reverse displays the national coat of arms of Venezuela, with a central shield divided into compartments, surmounted by cornucopiae and flanked by branches. A ribbon beneath the shield bears the inscriptions 19 DE ABRIL DE 1810 and 5 DE JULIO DE 1811, with DEPENDENCIA and LIBERTAD at the ribbon ends. The surrounding legend reads ESTADOS UNIDOS DE VENEZUELA. The denomination is indicated as GRAM. 25 to the left and LEI 900 to the right, with the date 1936 at the bottom. No mint mark is present.
This issue represents the final year of the long-running Venezuelan crown-sized silver Five Bolívares series, which was struck to a fixed weight and fineness standard.
