1923 Republic of Colombia Five Pesos – Gold
A 1923 gold Five Pesos issued by the Republic of Colombia for circulation. The obverse bears a right-facing portrait of Simón Bolívar, shown in military uniform, with the legend REPUBLICA DE COLOMBIA around and the date 1923 below. A beaded border surrounds the design.
The reverse displays the Colombian national coat of arms at center, featuring a shield draped with flags and surmounted by a condor with outstretched wings. The upper legend reads CINCO PESOS, while the lower portion bears the inscription G.7.988 LEY 0.916 2/3, indicating the standard weight and fineness. The motto LIBERTAD Y ORDEN appears on the shield. No mint mark is visible on the reverse; although many examples of this type carry a “B” for the Bogotá mint, no such letter is present on this specimen based on the images provided.
