Description

Taos Pueblo Hide Frame Drum & Mallet

This Taos Pueblo frame drum is crafted using traditional materials including wood, sinew, and natural hide. The solid wooden body is fitted with a taut hide head, secured by hand-laced sinew in a continuous zigzag pattern characteristic of Pueblo drum construction. A rawhide-wrapped side handle allows for handheld playing, making this drum suitable for traditional music, ceremonial use, or cultural display.

The drum is accompanied by a matching wooden mallet with a padded, hide-wrapped striking head. Its compact size and straightforward construction reflect a functional, utilitarian approach rooted in tradition rather than decorative excess. A strong example of Taos Pueblo craftsmanship, this piece will appeal to collectors of Native American artifacts, traditional musical instruments, or Southwestern cultural items.

Condition

Excellent condition with no damage. The hide head is intact and evenly stretched, the sinew lacing is tight and secure, and the wooden body shows no cracks or structural issues. The mallet is also in excellent condition.
