Búho de Barro Negro—Oaxaca Folk Art Owl, Unsigned
Compact barro negro (black clay) owl figure, likely from San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca. The piece presents a stylized, upright búho with deeply incised, crescent-feather chest, round ringed eyes, and a softly squared crown. Surfaces are hand-burnished (no glaze), giving the characteristic glossy black sheen associated with Oaxacan black clay ceramics popularized by the Doña Rosa workshop. A small vent opening and recessed underside are visible on the back, consistent with handmade folk pottery. Petite yet expressive, this is a charming accent for shelves or a focused grouping of Mexican ceramics.
Condition
Good overall, with a firing imperfection to the rear as shown; light surface wear from handling. No other remarkable damage noted.
