Description

Pueblo-Style Geometric Pottery Jar, Signed “Gato / Goto / Cato / Coto”

Hand-painted Pueblo-style pottery jar featuring intricate fine-line geometric decoration executed in black mineral paint on a cream slip with warm red-brown accents. The design incorporates stepped and checkerboard motifs arranged in radial symmetry, reflecting the refined aesthetic often associated with Western Pueblo, particularly Acoma-style, ceramic traditions of the mid–to–late 20th century.

The piece bears a painted signature along the rim that appears to read “Gato,” “Goto,” “Cato,” or “Coto.” No verified record of a Pueblo potter by this name appears in current artist signature indexes or reference archives. While the work’s stylistic elements are consistent with Acoma design language, the artist and exact origin remain unconfirmed.

A finely executed example of hand-painted Pueblo-style pottery, demonstrating exceptional line control, balance, and traditional design sensibility.

Condition: Excellent overall, showing only minimal scuffing and light shelf wear consistent with display. Surface decoration remains crisp and vibrant.

Dimensions: Height: 4.5 inches | Diameter: 9.5 inches

Attribution Note:
Signed along the rim with a name possibly reading Gato, Goto, Cato, or Coto. Artist unidentified. Stylistically consistent with mid–late 20th century Western Pueblo (Acoma-style) geometric pottery.
