Caroline Sando Jemez Pueblo Storyteller Pottery Figure – 4 Children
Delightful hand-sculpted storyteller pottery figure by Caroline Sando of the Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico. The seated woman cradles four children, each with open mouths symbolizing the oral storytelling tradition central to Pueblo culture. Formed from natural clay and hand-painted in warm terracotta, black, and turquoise tones, this charming piece reflects Sando’s distinctive folk-inspired style and the enduring storyteller legacy first popularized at Cochiti Pueblo.
Caroline Sando (b. 1963) is a noted Jemez Pueblo artist known for her hand-coiled figures and storytellers. Taught by her grandmother, Andrea Tsosie, Sando continues a lineage of traditional Pueblo pottery, using natural pigments and outdoor firing methods. Her work is widely collected for its expressive warmth and cultural authenticity.
