Baudel López & Soralla Acosta Mata Ortiz Pottery Jar — Hand-Coiled, Carved & Painted, 5½”
Beautiful hand-coiled pottery jar by Baudel López and Soralla Acosta of Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico. Signed on the underside, this collaborative work exemplifies the high artistry for which the López–Acosta team is known. The jar features an elegant asymmetrical rim and finely executed carved and painted geometric motifs in rich sienna and black tones. The surface is highly burnished, highlighting both precision linework and the fluidity of the form.
Baudel López and Soralla Acosta are respected contemporary Mata Ortiz potters whose work draws on the ancient Paquimé (Casas Grandes) ceramic tradition. Each piece is individually coiled by hand, then carefully polished, painted, and etched without the use of a potter’s wheel. Their collaboration blends traditional craftsmanship with modern design sophistication, making this jar a superb representation of contemporary northern Mexican pottery. Includes the original pottery ring for display.
