Sterling Silver Victorian Calling Card Case by Hilliard & Thomason, Birmingham 1887
A fine example of late Victorian refinement, this sterling silver calling card case was crafted by Hilliard & Thomason, hallmarked Birmingham, 1887. Finely hand-engraved with scrolling foliage, cross-hatched panels, and a central Gothic “B” monogram, it embodies the precision and ornament of England’s silversmithing golden age.
Included are the original copper printing plate—engraved in reverse—and period calling cards for Mrs. Ede S. Saunders, creating a rare and complete ensemble that bridges craftsmanship, identity, and social ritual. Together, they speak to the artistry and etiquette of a bygone era when every detail carried grace and meaning.
Dimensions: 3.75 x 2.75 x 0.25 in. Weight: 50.25 g (case only)
Condition: Good, with a minor dents and light surface wear; hinge pin is present, but needs to be secured. Attractive patina throughout—we’ll leave the polishing to you.
