Description

California Originals Turquoise & Gold Leaf Ceramic Dish Trio, USA

Elegant three-piece ceramic set by California Originals, each clearly maker-marked on the underside. Produced in Torrance, California during the mid-20th century, these pieces exemplify the vibrant artistry of postwar California pottery. The set includes a double-handled tray (model 701), a large leaf dish (model 719), and a divided leaf relish dish (model 664)—each finished in a turquoise speckled glaze with hand-applied gold trim.

California Originals was celebrated for its organic forms and richly glazed surfaces, embodying the optimism and bold design sensibility of 1950s America. The graceful leaf motifs and scalloped edges in this grouping showcase the studio’s craftsmanship and mid-century flair—equally suited for serving or as an eye-catching display ensemble.

Condition:

Good overall. The divided dish shows a manufacturing defect on the underside, as shown. Minor wear to the glaze and light edge rubbing consistent with age. Gold accents remain bright and attractive.

Dimensions:

  • Double-handle tray: 1" H × 15.5" W × 12.75" D
  • Leaf dish: 2.75" H × 12.25" W × 13" D
  • Divided leaf dish: 2" H × 11" W × 11.5" D

Soup can shown for scale.

California Originals pottery, produced from the 1940s through the early 1980s, is prized for its expressive glazes and sculptural designs. Sets like this, retaining vibrant color and gold detailing, remain highly collectible examples of mid-century California art ware—a lively reflection of the era’s handmade American design movement.
