Tibetan Hand-Painted Storage Chest with Foo Dog Motif
Beautifully crafted Tibetan storage chest featuring solid wood construction and hand-painted decoration in traditional Himalayan style. The front panel depicts a lively green Foo Dog, or Snow Lion—a symbol of protection and strength—set against a rich red field with gold and black borders adorned with floral and longevity (“shou”) motifs. The chest is fitted with original iron hinges and latch hardware, and its compact form suggests use for household or monastery storage. The piece reflects the distinctive artistry of mid-20th century Tibetan furniture, where vibrant colors and sacred imagery were employed to safeguard and bless the contents within.
Condition:
