Tom Lea “And Rode to Paso del Norte” 1968 Lithograph – El Paso Mission Scene
Original lithograph “And Rode to Paso del Norte” by Tom Lea (1907–2001), issued in 1968. Lea, an El Paso native, was a central figure in capturing the landscape and heritage of West Texas and Southern New Mexico through his art and writing. This work depicts the historic Mission of Guadalupe in Paso del Norte (present-day Ciudad Juárez), a landmark of the borderland’s deep Spanish and Native history. A lone rider approaches the mission under dynamic, crosshatched skies — a masterful display of Lea’s expressive penwork and storytelling precision.
Printed on fine paper, professionally matted and framed under glass in a black frame with gilt trim. Lower margin inscribed “32. And Rode to Paso del Norte”; copyright lower right © 1968 Tom Lea.
