Michael Florian — “Třešť Town Hall” Linocut, 1950s, Signed 73/200
Original linocut by Michael (Michal) Florian (1911–1984), depicting the Town Hall of Třešť (Radnice Třešť) in the Vysočina region of the Czech Republic. Florian’s mastery of architectural form is on full display here, balancing bold black contours with a warm ochre tone to evoke the Renaissance arcades and rhythmic façade of the historic square. Numbered 73/200 and signed in pencil lower right, this print exemplifies the artist’s celebrated series of Moravian townscapes produced during the 1950s–60s.
A fine and atmospheric work from one of Czechoslovakia’s most admired mid-century printmakers, blending regional heritage with the precision of modernist graphic design. An excellent addition to any collection of Czech or Central European art.
Condition
Very good condition overall. Light toning to the margins and faint handling marks visible under close inspection, consistent with age. Image area clean and well-inked, with rich contrast and no tears or foxing noted. Presented matted and framed; not examined out of frame.
