Saraswati Figure — South Indian Style Lost-Wax Casting, 5¼ Inches
A finely detailed bronze alloy sculpture depicting Saraswati, the revered Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, and wisdom. Seated gracefully in lalitasana posture, she holds a veena across her lap, symbolizing creativity and harmony. The figure displays classic South Indian craftsmanship, with elaborate ornamentation, layered jewelry, and a tall, tiered headdress typical of traditional Tamil and Karnataka devotional bronzes.
Cast using the lost-wax (cire perdue) technique, the piece shows an uneven interior consistent with handcrafted metalwork. The alloy exhibits slight magnetic attraction, suggesting a mixed-metal composition similar to panchaloha (a sacred five-metal blend). The sculpture retains a rich brown-gold patina, highlighting its intricate detailing and serene expression.
Condition:
Good condition overall, with minor surface wear consistent with age and handling. No remarkable damage or repairs observed. The underside reveals casting irregularities typical of lost-wax production.
Dimensions:
Overall: 5¼ x 4 x 2½ inches
Weight: 2 lbs 1.2 oz
