Signed Navajo YJ Sterling Silver & Old Kingman Turquoise Buckle w/ Belt
Finely crafted Navajo sterling silver belt buckle, signed “YJ,” and set with three bezel-mounted Old Kingman turquoise stones displaying rich sky-blue hues with distinctive black and brown matrix. The silverwork features a tufa-cast texture, framed with rope-twist borders and flared feather accents, exemplifying traditional Navajo design from the 1960s–1970s era. The reverse is hand-stamped with the “YJ” hallmark. Unmarked but tested sterling silver.
The buckle is paired with a vintage hand-tooled leather belt, measuring 34.5" long and 1.45" wide, crafted with a floral motif and cream rawhide lacing. The belt is removable and fits waists approximately 24"–31".
From a fine New Mexico collection of Native American jewelry, this piece represents the authentic artistry of Navajo silversmithing and traditional Western craftsmanship.
Dimensions:
- Buckle: 2.59" H × 3.22" W × 0.61" D
- Stones: Largest 27.9 × 20.3 mm; Smallest 21.8 × 13.9 mm
- Weight: 100.1 grams total
- Accommodates belt width: 1.5"
Condition:
Good vintage condition. Turquoise stones are secure and show natural matrix and surface character typical of untreated Kingman turquoise. The buckle’s pin has been primitively replaced with sturdy silver wire, a functional period repair that remains strong and serviceable, requiring no further work for wear. Silver shows appealing natural patina and light surface marks; polishing left to the buyer’s preference. Leather belt is supple with mild age wear and intact tooling.
Provenance:
From a fine collection of Native American jewelry, New Mexico, acquired in the 1960s–1970s.
