Description

Tony Hillerman First Edition Lot (4) — Sacred Clowns, The First Eagle, Hunting Badger, The Shape Shifter

Set of four hardcover first editions by Tony Hillerman, each from his iconic Leaphorn & Chee Navajo Tribal Police mystery series. Titles include Sacred Clowns (1993), The First Eagle (1998), Hunting Badger (1999), and The Shape Shifter (2006). These novels capture the mature phase of Hillerman’s career, combining tightly plotted mystery with the cultural depth and reverence for Navajo tradition that define his work.

Sacred Clowns (the eleventh in the series) earned critical acclaim and an Anthony Award nomination, weaving a murder investigation into Pueblo ceremonial life. The First Eagle and Hunting Badger continue Hillerman’s exploration of identity, tradition, and modern law enforcement within the Navajo Nation—Hunting Badger drawing inspiration from a real Four Corners manhunt. The Shape Shifter, Hillerman’s final novel before his passing, brings retired Lt. Joe Leaphorn back to the field in a reflective, mystery-driven narrative that revisits the series’ spiritual and historical roots. Each volume features distinctive jacket art by Peter Thorpe, known for his geometric and culturally symbolic designs.
