Edward S. Curtis 3 Book Lot North American Indian TASCHEN + Barre

Collection of three important Edward S. Curtis photography volumes documenting Native American life and culture across North America:

1. The North American Indian: The Complete Portfolios (TASCHEN, 1997, ISBN 3-8228-8183-X), printed in Italy. This large-format hardcover reproduces the complete portfolio plates from Curtis’s monumental 20-volume project (1907–1930), originally issued in limited subscription. 768 pages.

2. Visions of a Vanishing Race (Barre Publishing, 1972; Second Printing, October 1974). Text by Florence Curtis Graybill and Victor Boesen.

3. In a Sacred Manner We Live (Barre Publishing, 1972; Second Printing, October 1974). Introduction & commentary by Don D. Fowler.

Curtis (1868–1952) devoted more than two decades to documenting over 80 tribes, producing one of the most ambitious photographic records in American history. The 1970s Barre editions helped renew collector and scholarly interest, while the TASCHEN edition presents the complete portfolios in an accessible large-format volume.

An excellent grouping for collectors of photography, Western Americana, Native American studies, or art reference libraries.

Condition:
All three volumes are in very good condition overall, with light shelf wear and minor edge rubbing consistent with age. The TASCHEN hardcover shows mild handling wear. The Barre softcovers show light cover wear. Interiors appear clean and unmarked. Bindings are sound and intact. Please review photos carefully for cosmetic details.
