Karen E. Muench Watercolor – Three Kokopellis Serenading a Moon Mermaid, 2006
Original 2006 watercolor by American artist Karen E. Muench, titled Three Kokopellis Serenading a Moon Mermaid on Petroglyph Mountain. In this vivid, imaginative work, three stylized Kokopellis playfully encircle a mermaid resting within a glowing red moon, surrounded by a rich Southwestern landscape. Petroglyph-inspired symbols—bears, coyotes, lizards, spirals—fill the composition, along with layered washes of orange, turquoise, and purple that evoke the high desert at dusk.
Signed “Muench 2006” just below the moon, the painting is executed in watercolor and ink. It is professionally double-matted in deep blue and presented behind glass in a modern metal frame. The artist’s business card is affixed to the reverse, along with the handwritten title.
A joyful, narrative work of Southwestern folk-influenced art—perfect for collectors of visionary or regional American paintings.
