Johnny Cash “At San Quentin” LP
Columbia CS 9827 1969 360 Sound Stereo
Original 1969 Johnny Cash at San Quentin LP (Columbia CS 9827), recorded live at San Quentin State Prison and produced by Bob Johnston. This 360 Sound Stereo U.S. pressing features the distinctive red Columbia label with dual “Columbia eye” logos and matrix numbers XSM 139760 / XSM 139761 — consistent with early first issues. Includes the historic live debut of “A Boy Named Sue” alongside classics “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk the Line,” and two renditions of “San Quentin.”
The sleeve displays Jim Marshall’s legendary concert photography, showing Cash performing before inmates during the Granada Television recording. Widely acclaimed as one of Cash’s defining performances, this Grammy-winning album captured his raw energy and rebellious spirit at the height of his career. A landmark document in American music history.
Condition
Vinyl in very good (VG) condition, showing light scuffs and minor surface marks visible under strong light; labels clean and well-centered with minimal spindle wear. Jacket retains deep color and crisp text, exhibiting moderate edge and ring wear, minor surface rubbing, and light shelf wear. Plays through with clear sound and minimal surface noise. A strong collector-grade example of this classic 1969 Columbia pressing.
