Quincy Tahoma “Mother and Child” Limited Edition Print
Limited-edition print “Mother and Child” by celebrated Navajo artist Quincy Tahoma (1921–1956), one of the foremost painters of the early Studio School movement under Dorothy Dunn at the Santa Fe Indian School. Originally created in 1942, this work portrays a tender moment of a Navajo mother holding her infant in a cradleboard, surrounded by animals that symbolize domestic harmony and care. Tahoma’s fluid lines and soft tonal palette exemplify his signature flat-style technique that bridges traditional Diné narrative imagery with modern composition.
Numbered 370 of 1000, this authorized reproduction bears Tahoma’s distinctive sun-and-figure signature, with date “’42” incorporated into the image. Framed under glass with double matting in cream and burgundy.
Condition:
Fair overall. Some visible dirt and debris inside glass; frame shows surface scuffs and wear. Backing paper exhibits water staining but the print itself remains unaffected.
Dimensions:
Overall (framed): 21 x 17.5 inches
Visible image area: 13.75 x 10.5 inches
