Packard Pla-Mor 24-Selection Chrome Wallbox, ca. 1940s
Step back into the golden age of the American diner with this Packard “Pla-Mor” 24-selection wallbox, crafted by Packard Manufacturing Corp., Indianapolis, Indiana, circa 1940s. Its gleaming chrome body and bold red Bakelite knobs once brought music to café counters and corner booths, linking patrons to the rhythm of a distant jukebox. The marquee still reads: “Turn Knob to Your Choice Before Depositing Nickel — Plays 1 to 24 Selections.”
Packard’s Pla-Mor series, the brainchild of jukebox innovator Homer E. Capehart, helped define mid-century music culture. Sleek Art Deco styling, twin PLAY buttons, and the vibrant “PLA-MOR” emblem make this piece as much a sculptural artifact as a slice of sonic history. Serial number 154655, patent plate intact.
A beautiful reminder of a time when a nickel promised a song — and a moment of joy shared across a chrome-and-neon world.
Condition
Good vintage condition with honest signs of use. Chrome finish bright with light scuffs; knob turns smoothly and nickels pass correctly. No remarkable damage noted.
