2 Occult Books – Abramelin the Mage & History and Practice of Magic
Pair of influential vintage occult volumes. The first, The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage by S.L. MacGregor Mathers, was published by De Laurence Company, Chicago. This classic grimoire—originally translated in 1897 by Mathers of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn—remains one of the most important works in ceremonial and Kabbalistic magic. This De Laurence edition features maroon embossed boards with gilt SATOR square and spine lettering, typical of mid-20th-century printings.
The second volume, The History and Practice of Magic by Paul Christian, is a Citadel Press hardcover (fourth printing, November 1969). Based on the 19th-century French text Histoire de la magie, this work surveys magical traditions from antiquity through the Renaissance and modern occultism. Both books include a personalized Ex Libris bookplate, adding provenance charm for collectors of esoteric literature.
Condition:
In good condition overall. The Mathers volume’s binding is solid and intact, showing light edgewear consistent with age. The Citadel Press edition has visible wear to the spine and corners, with the hardcover still attached but requiring reglueing. Both books display age-appropriate toning and handling marks, along with a personalized first page. Please review photos for full condition details.
Size:
Two hardcover volumes.
