12" Navajo Wedding Basket — Coiled Spiral, Red & Brown
Navajo wedding basket constructed in the traditional coiled technique, displaying continuous concentric bands in terracotta red and dark brown-black alternating with undyed natural fiber, spiraling outward from a tight knotted center. The color palette is notably warmer and earthier than classic high-contrast examples, with the dark bands reading as deep brownish-black — likely reflecting natural dye materials. The shallow wide bowl form transitions to a flat herringbone-finished rim characteristic of traditional Navajo coiled work, with clean, even coil construction visible on the reverse.
CONDITION
Good, with age-appropriate wear throughout. Weave structure is intact and the form holds its shape well.
