Oak Stave Barrel — Closed Head, Iron Hoops, Bung Hole, Unmarked
A full-size oak stave barrel with a closed top head and dark-painted iron hoops secured at riveted lap-joint overlaps. The staves display heavily pronounced open grain with dark toning throughout, and a bung hole is present mid-stave on one side. The top head shows a faint ghost impression — possibly a remnant brand mark — though no legible cooperage stamp is present anywhere on the barrel. The wider, more squat profile is characteristic of a larger-capacity working cask.
CONDITION Good. Stave surfaces show deep open-grain checking and uneven dark toning consistent with age and use, and several hoops display paint loss along the edges exposing bare metal. One upper hoop has a visible separation at the lap joint on the reverse side.
