Japanese Meiji Sterling Silver Jewelry Box — Engraved Chrysanthemum, Velvet Lined, Fitted Tray
A Japanese Meiji period sterling silver over wood jewelry box with a hinged lid, lobed cloud-form carrying handle, oval side release tab, and a lobed keyhole escutcheon centered on the front face. All exterior surfaces are hand-engraved with chrysanthemum and foliate motifs characteristic of Meiji-era decorative silverwork. Stamped "STERLING SILVER" on the rim. Interior is lined in burnt orange velvet.
The lot includes a removable fitted tray in an ebonized wood frame with three velvet-lined compartments sized for rings, brooches, and flat jewelry items.
CONDITION
Good. Engraving is crisp across all surfaces and the velvet lining is intact. Heavy oxidation throughout the exterior; a jagged area near the top edge and minor indentations are present on the body. Box is unlocked; key is absent.
