Description

Foxhunt Oil on Canvas — Scarlet Riders & Hounds, Signed, Framed

A large-format oil on stretched canvas depicting two riders in scarlet hunt coats — one mounted on a blood bay, the other a dapple grey — moving through an autumnal woodland with a pack of tri-color English foxhounds working the foreground. The composition delivers every hallmark of the classical sporting art tradition: figures commanding, horses muscled and alive, hounds individually characterized, the sky luminous against dark autumn foliage. At 35" × 23½" on canvas, the scale earns its place. Signed lower right with an indiscernible signature.

Presented without glass in a substantial dark walnut-tone frame with a beaded silver inner liner and gold sight edge — period-appropriate, 44" wide overall, and ready to hang. This is a piece built for a library, a dining room, a hunt club, or any interior where the sporting life is not decoration but identity.

CONDITION

Good overall, with strong color saturation and no lifting or cracking across the primary subject. A small area of craquelure approximately ¼" is present in a secondary area of the canvas, and a minor surface imperfection in the upper sky measures approximately ⅛" — both documented in the supplemental reference images.
