Cast Iron Knuckle-Cap Block Plane — Made in USA, Adjustable Throat
A vintage American-made block plane distinguished by its knuckle-joint lever cap — a dome-shaped nickel-plated mechanism that locks the blade with firm, positive pressure and sets this design apart from the common screw-cap block planes of the same era. The cast iron body carries a japanned finish with an adjustable mouth plate for fine or coarse work, a knurled depth-adjustment wheel, and "MADE IN USA" cast into the toe. No maker's mark is visible on the body, though the casting profile, hardware, and construction are strongly consistent with Stanley No. 18 production from the mid-20th century. The turned hardwood front knob is intact with honest age patina.
CONDITION Good — all components are present and the plane is mechanically intact, with adjustable mouth and depth wheel both functional. The blade iron and sole show moderate-to-heavy surface rust and pitting; the japanned body finish has worn through at the edges and heel with rust bleed. The nickel-plated lever cap retains most of its finish with minor spotting.
