Description

Teak Wood Parat Bread Bowl — Indian Chapati Tray, Carved Handles

A traditional Indian parat — a wide, shallow teak vessel used in the home for mixing and kneading flour for chapati, roti, and naan. Hand-hewn from a single piece of teak in Rajasthan, this example features carved integral handles on opposing sides and a raised interior well. The surface carries a deep, dark patina built from generations of daily kitchen use, with warm amber grain breaking through across the rim and sidewalls. Handled paraat are less common than plain round examples and carry stronger visual presence — no two are identical in grain, tool marks, or form.

A fitted square wood patch at the interior base tells the story plainly: this bowl was repaired and kept in service, the mark of a genuinely used object. Retailed through World Market with its original descriptive hang tag, which accompanies the piece.

CONDITION Good. Heavy use patina throughout with extensive surface scratching to the interior well, consistent with long working life. One fitted square wood patch at the interior base — structurally stable and dry. No cracks, splits, or losses to the form.
