Piano Salvage Oak Panel — Carved Acanthus Appliqués, Wall Décor
A decorative wall panel salvaged from an antique piano, constructed of quartersawn oak in a deep, dark-stained finish that throws the wood's characteristic ray-fleck figure into sharp relief. Two symmetrically placed carved appliqués anchor the composition — each a classically proportioned acanthus spray bound by a ribbon bow and terminating in a pendant feather form — motifs standard to quality piano casework of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. Crown molding runs the full width of the top edge; a plinth molding defines the base.
Decorators and architectural salvage collectors will recognize the panel's versatility: it installs cleanly as a fireplace surround insert, wainscoting accent, or headboard substitute at 54" wide. Woodworkers and furniture restorers frequently source pieces like this for the carved appliqués alone — period-correct acanthus ornaments in this condition are difficult to find on the secondary market. The piece has been previously mounted for wall display.
CONDITION Good. No remarkable damage; the panel is structurally sound and the carved appliqués are fully intact. Visible scuffs, dings, and light scratching consistent with age and prior installation are present across the face — see images.
