Spark Plug Folk Art Pair — Locomotive & Biplane
Two assembled-hardware folk art sculptures, each built around a Champion spark plug as its central body element — the amber ceramic insulator serving as the locomotive boiler and the biplane fuselage respectively. Components are fabricated from salvaged shop hardware: large washer-wheels, bolt and nail smokestacks, sheet metal cab roofs and wing panels, a hand-cut propeller, and threaded fittings for the engine cowlings. Both retain legible "CHAM" stampings on the ceramic bodies. The construction is confident and purposeful — not crude assemblage but considered folk engineering, each piece immediately readable as its subject.
Sold as a matched pair. This format — two vehicles, one theme — is the unit of value here. Spark plug folk art as a matched set is uncommon; single examples turn up regularly, pairs do not.
CONDITION
Good, As Shown. Both pieces carry heavy oxidation and surface patina across all iron and steel elements consistent with age.
