Antique Turned Wood Dough Bowl — Original Red Paint
Hand-turned from a single solid piece of wood, this 19th-century American dough bowl retains its original red exterior paint — worn, patinated, and completely unrestored. The base shows clear lathe-turning rings, the rim flares gently outward, and the natural interior has darkened to a deep honey tone through generations of use. Original painted surfaces on American utilitarian woodenware are increasingly difficult to source in any color; red ranks among the most sought.
At 17.5 inches across, this bowl works equally well displayed as a farmhouse centerpiece or as a grounded addition to a collection of American painted country antiques.
CONDITION Good. Honest signs of use throughout — the exterior retains original red paint with heavy patination, surface scratching, and uneven color loss consistent with age. The interior shows significant scratch wear and dark staining; a healed gouge mark is visible near center. Base knot has been filled and is stable.
