19th C Stoneware Crock 4 Gal Cobalt Floral
This 19th century American stoneware crock features a bold hand-painted cobalt blue floral design framed by flowing vine decoration, along with a brushed “4” denoting its four-gallon capacity. Likely produced in the Ohio River Valley region circa 1870–1900, it showcases classic salt-glazed construction with warm beige tones and natural kiln effects. The dark Albany slip–glazed interior and sturdy applied lug handles reflect its original use as a durable storage vessel.
The decoration presents especially well, with strong contrast and pleasing movement, making this an attractive example for collectors and rustic interiors alike. Its generous size and authentic craftsmanship offer both visual impact and historical charm.
Condition:
In good condition with age-appropriate wear, including chips to the finish and chips to one handle. A hairline crack is present near the handle, along with minor glaze loss and surface imperfections. The decoration remains clear and visually strong; please review images for details.
