Burt Francisco Navajo Sterling Mother of Pearl Cross Earrings
A bold and beautifully executed pair of Navajo dangle earrings by silversmith Burt Francisco, hallmarked BKF 925. Francisco pairs smooth round mother of pearl cabochons with hand-stamped sterling cross pendants — a combination that balances the soft luminosity of the shell against the graphic strength of the silverwork.
Each cross pendant is worked in classic Navajo stamp tradition: concentric rectangular framing, sawtooth zigzag borders, and elongated teardrops arranged across the arms, with oxidized recesses that sharpen the relief and give the design strong visual depth. The mother of pearl tops are bezel-set in plain sterling frames and suspend the crosses via jump rings, allowing natural movement when worn.
Francisco learned traditional Navajo silversmithing techniques from his parents and was producing and selling his own work before his twentieth birthday. Now a master artisan working from his studio in Canoncito, New Mexico, his pieces are well-documented and consistently collected throughout the Southwest.
CONDITION
Good overall. Stones are secure in their settings with no chips or cracks visible. The silver shows light surface wear consistent with prior use; natural oxidation in the stamped recesses is intentional and enhances the design. Polishing left to the buyer.
