Navajo Multistone Inlay Yei Pendant Attr. Ray Jack
A striking Navajo sterling silver multistone inlay pendant depicting a Yei — a Holy Person of the Navajo tradition — set within an elongated oval frame that serves as a night sky field. The figure is composed with a fan-shaped headdress of luminous Australian opal radiating against jet black onyx, a coral accent at the crown, and a geometric face and body rendered in turquoise, spiny oyster, gaspeite, and additional multistone channel inlay. Diagonal malachite streaks across the field suggest shooting stars, while scattered white dot constellations complete the celestial composition. A large block-style sterling bale with a 9.90mm opening accommodates heavier chains and complements the substantial scale of the pendant.
The reverse is stamped STERLING and the piece is attributed to Navajo artist Ray Jack based on its stylistic hallmarks — the night sky format, the Yei subject matter, the material palette, and the elongated oval form are all consistent with his known body of work. This pendant represents the aesthetic at its most ambitious.
CONDITION
Good. All stone inlay is secure with no lifting, chips, or losses observed. Light surface scratches are present to the left of the Yei face, visible in photos — these do not disrupt the inlay or the overall visual presentation. The sterling frame and bale show age-appropriate wear. Polishing is left to the buyer.
