Vintage Sterling & 10K Gold 4-Pc Ranger Belt Buckle Set — American Western
A four-piece vintage American Western ranger belt buckle set in sterling silver with applied 10k gold floral overlay — the hallmark combination that defines mid-century Western dress silversmithing. The buckle makes the strongest statement: bold repoussé leaf and scroll motifs in warm 10k gold rise against a bright sterling ground, all contained within a heavy hand-formed rope-twist border. The two matching keepers and arrowhead-shaped tip carry the same rope border and add dense hand-incised geometric stampwork — zigzag, crosshatch, and repeat dash patterns worked directly into the silver.
The back of the buckle is stamped "Sterling" in script over a block "10K" — the standard material hallmark of this class of bi-metal ranger hardware. No maker's name is present, which is consistent with smaller American Western silversmiths of the 1940s–1960s who typically marked material content only. Critically, no "Mexico" stamp appears anywhere on the set, distinguishing this as American-made work rather than Taxco production. At 73.1 grams for the complete set — substantially heavier than most comparable four-piece sets — the construction quality is evident in hand. All four pieces present as a cohesive, matched set. CONDITION
Good overall with authentic patina. The decorated fronts present well — rope borders structurally intact, 10k gold floral overlay firmly adhered, stampwork on the keepers and tip crisp and fully legible. The reverses show tarnish and oxidation consistent with decades of age, along with light surface scratches on the smooth silver areas, as shown in photos. Polishing left to the buyer.
