Description

Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver Natural Turquoise Cluster Brooch/Pendant Signed

Seventy-three natural turquoise cabochons are arranged in a radiating sunburst composition anchored by a single elongated oval center stone, with successive tiers of teardrop and round stones fanning outward across nearly three inches of heavy-gauge sterling silver. The radial symmetry holds cleanly around the full circumference of the oval ground — a compositional achievement worked entirely by hand. Each stone is housed in its own individually hand-stamped sawtooth bezel, consistent in depth and rhythm throughout. Three concentric registers of twisted wire rope — formed and fused as discrete elements — articulate the tiers. Individually soldered silver ball terminals ring the scalloped perimeter. The ground silver between bezels carries a rich, intentional oxidation that deepens the contrast and draws the eye inward toward the stones.

The turquoise is natural and untreated, confirmed by testing. All seventy-three stones present in vivid robin's egg blue with minimal matrix — a handful of outer stones exhibit the faint natural webbing that collectors recognize as a mark of authenticity. Assembling stones of this color consistency at this volume reflects the kind of careful, patient material sourcing that defined the work of accomplished Navajo bench smiths working in the mid-to-late twentieth century.

The reverse bears a partial hallmark — indicating a signed work whose full mark was only partially impressed. The piece is fitted with both a barrel clasp pin stem and an integrated pendant bail, offering the wearer genuine flexibility.

CONDITION

Very good. All 73 natural turquoise stones are intact, secure, and vivid — no cracks, chips, or missing stones observed. The sterling silver face carries a rich, even patina consistent with age. The reverse displays surface scratches and oxidation visible in the photographs, honest evidence of a piece that has been worn and cherished. The pin mechanism is fully functional.
