Life-Size Bronze Male Nude Sculpture — Anguished Figure, Verdigris
A life-size cast bronze figure in a posture of total psychological collapse — torso folded violently inward, spine arched, head buried within the cavity formed by the body's own limbs. Encountered in person, the scale is arresting: limbs extend more than four feet, and the piece commands space the way only a life-size figure can. The face, visible only from beneath, carries closed eyes and an expression of concentrated anguish. Long hair rendered in deeply textured bronze cascades forward over clenched hands, pulling further weight into the inward turn of the pose. The verdigris patina runs deep green throughout, with reddish copper ground breaking at high-contact points across the back, limbs, and feet — the natural result of extended outdoor display. At 180 pounds of confirmed hollow-cast bronze, the material investment matches the artistic ambition. No visible signature or foundry mark.
Deaccessioned from a private collection of fine New Mexico sculpture and art.
CONDITION
Excellent. Patina is rich and consistent across the full surface, with natural copper breakthrough at wear points consistent with outdoor display. No structural issues, cracks, or repairs noted.
