Description

1977 Ford Ranchero GT — 400 CID V8

Last of an American Original | S-Code 400 V8 | Automatic | Brougham Interior

The Ford Ranchero invented the American car-truck hybrid in 1957 — two years before Chevrolet answered with the El Camino. This 1977 example is seventh-generation and final-generation: the last platform, the last body style, three model years from the end of a 22-year run. It's a GT — the sport trim of the three-level 1977 Ranchero lineup — built in February 1977 at Ford's Atlanta assembly plant and sold through the San Jose / Northern California district sales office. Under the hood is the S-code 400 CID V8 with two-barrel carburetion, the largest engine offered on the 1977 Ranchero, backed by an automatic transmission. Exterior is factory Dark Red. The GT carries the Brougham interior package: teal-green vinyl door panels with chrome surround molding and embossed script badges, black vinyl bucket seats, and a full instrument cluster with tachometer. Chrome bumpers front and rear, chrome wheel-well moldings, turbine-style alloy wheels, and a Protect-A-Top fiberglass locking tonneau cover complete the exterior. California title (VIN 7A485S145297, plate 2C12635) transfers with the vehicle. Registration has been lapsed since April 2013; buyer is responsible for all transfer and registration fees.

The foundation is solid where it counts: body is structurally straight, the numbers-matching S-code 400 CID V8 is present and completely stock, GT trim and Brougham interior package survive largely intact, and the car carries full GT/Brougham provenance documentation. It starts, runs, idles cleanly, does not overheat, and will drive home. That's the floor — and it's a good one for a project of this caliber. Everything else should be assumed to need attention. Visible issues include heavy oxidation and paint loss across all exterior panels; bare primer exposed on the passenger quarter panel and rear panel; dashboard pad cracked along the top; driver's floor showing rust and deterioration; significant surface rust and grime accumulation on the subframe and radiator support; ignition cylinder removed — vehicle currently started by touching wires at the steering column; factory air conditioning inoperative. These are the defects we can see. On a vehicle of this age and condition, there will be additional issues that are not visible in photographs and have not been assessed. No mechanical systems beyond basic start, run, and drive have been verified, and none are warranted. Bidders should evaluate accordingly.
