Description

Quartersawn Oak Dresser — Oval Swivel Mirror, Lyre Supports

This turn-of-the-century American dresser is built from quartersawn white oak, and the ray fleck grain on the drawer fronts is exactly the figure that furniture makers of the 1895–1910 era used to sell their bedroom suites. The case holds two smaller upper drawers over a single deep lower drawer — all three dovetail-constructed — fitted with original turned wooden knobs and brass keyhole escutcheons. Legs are outswept cabriole-style in front and straight square in rear, a transitional form that bridges late Victorian and early Arts & Crafts production. The paneled back is a quality indicator for the period, and the mirror assembly detaches cleanly for transport or installation flexibility.

The wishbone mirror assembly is the standout: serpentine lyre-form supports sweep upward to carved scroll terminals and carry a large tilting oval mirror on brass pivot hardware, giving the piece a unified, well-proportioned presence at over five feet tall with mirror in place.

CONDITION

Good. The oak case and mirror frame show minor age-appropriate wear with no remarkable damage. Keyhole escutcheons are intact; no key included.
