Korczak Ziolkowski Crazy Horse 1/1200 Scale Model Sculpture — Granite Base
An official 1/1200 scale model of the Crazy Horse Memorial, designed and copyrighted by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski, who broke ground on the 563-foot mountain carving in the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1948. The bronze sculpture captures the full composition Ziolkowski envisioned at monumental scale: Crazy Horse mounted bareback, right arm extended forward, atop a rearing horse — both figures emerging from rough-hewn stone. The casting carries rich two-tone patination, with a warmer reddish-brown on the figural elements and a deep near-black on the textured rock formation below. The piece sits on a natural rough-cut granite base consistent with Black Hills granite sourced near the memorial site. Cast text on the front face reads:
1/1200 SCALE MODEL CRAZY HORSE BLACK HILLS, S.D. ©KORCZAK ZIOLKOWSKI SCULPTOR
The base bears the secondary copyright signature ©KORCZAK / Sc.
This lot includes two period postcards of the Crazy Horse Memorial mountain carving in progress.
CONDITION
Very Good — no remarkable damage. Patination is consistent across the figure and base with no flaking, fading, or losses to cast detail. The granite base presents in its intended natural rough-cut profile with no breaks or repairs detected.
