Description

Texas Longhorn Horn Mount — San Lucas Mexico 1968, Wall Mount

A wall-mounted Texas Longhorn horn assembly signed and dated to San Lucas, Mexico, 1968 — putting this piece squarely in the ranching culture of the Sierra Gorda region during a period when hand-finished horn mounts were a genuine cottage trade. The horns show strong natural color graduation from cream-ivory at the base to dark gunmetal at the tips, with the poll wrapped in original short-hair cowhide in warm chestnut brown with natural white spotting. A single forged iron hang ring is set at the crown. The cardboard reverse backer carries the cursive blue-ink inscription with the origin and date, secured by three nail-tack fasteners — intact provenance that travels with the piece.

The horn bases are sheathed in a fitted hide sleeve that runs continuously across the poll face, presenting a clean, unified front with no exposed form or skull material.

CONDITION

Good. Horns are structurally sound with strong color and display presence. Some separation present at the hide seam where the sleeve meets the poll wrap at the right horn base. Minor hide loss noted; no remarkable damage to horns or hanging hardware.
