John Virando Callander Pottery Tureen Set Scottish Studio with Lid & Ladle
A beautifully handcrafted stoneware soup tureen set by Scottish studio potter John Virando, signed J.V. Callander. Created at Callander Pottery in Perthshire circa late 1970s–1980s, this exceptional ensemble includes the original lid and matching ladle—an increasingly scarce complete set. The piece features a softly speckled, oatmeal-toned glaze with warm earthy undertones, accented by hand-carved floral motifs that reveal the natural clay beneath. The domed lid is thoughtfully notched to cradle the ladle, a hallmark of both utility and artisan design.
Virando’s work reflects his training across notable British potteries including Briglin and Chelsea, and this example captures that lineage—balancing rustic charm with refined craftsmanship. Both a functional serving piece and a collectible work of studio ceramics, it makes a striking addition to any table or display.
