"Bedroom Light" is among the most recognized interior figure studies by Steve Hanks (1949–2015), the Albuquerque-based watercolorist celebrated for his mastery of direct light and the female form. Painted in 1987, the composition places a backlit reclining figure against a multi-pane window, warm morning light dissolving the edges of the scene in the luminous, photorealistic style that made Hanks one of the top 25 selling artists in the United States and a recipient of both the National Watercolor Society Merit Award and the National Academy of Western Art Gold Medal. The artist's signature and date appear in print in the lower left: Steve Hanks – 87. The verso carries a handwritten gift inscription identifying the title, dated Christmas 1996.
