Comet King 11x80 Binoculars No. 9750 w/ Case Japan
Vintage Comet King 11x80 binoculars, serial No. 9750, likely Japanese-made circa 1970s–1980s, a period known for producing solid large-aperture optics for both astronomy and terrestrial use. Marked “Fully Multi-Coated” with BAK-4 prisms, this model offers improved light transmission and contrast compared to earlier BK-7 designs. The 11x magnification paired with oversized 80mm objective lenses provides excellent brightness, especially in low-light or night sky viewing, with a stated 4.5° field of view.
These feature a classic Porro prism design with a textured black finish, central focus wheel, and individual diopter adjustment. Includes the original hard, footed carry case with handle and shoulder strap—an accessory often missing and desirable for collectors. Large-format binoculars like this were commonly tripod-adaptable (mount point visible), adding to their usability.
A compelling piece for astronomy enthusiasts or collectors of vintage Japanese optics.
Condition:
Fair condition overall and fully functional, tested. Optics are clean and clear with only minor internal dust typical of age. Exterior shows scratches and a noticeable dent on the body. Case has scuffs and wear from use but remains structurally sound.
